Derek Li
GIS Coordinator
MGEM
Derek was born in Vancouver, BC and raised in Chengdu, China (the home of the Giant Panda). He got his bachelor's degree in Forest Resource Management at UBC. During this time, he found his interest in GIS and remote sensing, a passion that led him to eventually pursue a career in GIS.
This encouraged him to join the Master of Geomatics for Environment (MGEM) program at UBC promptly following his graduation. Throughout his Master’s degree, he studied the relationship between carbon stock and urban vegetation fragmentation in Vancouver using remotely sensed data and GIS tools.
Derek is now a GIS Technician working for Frontera Forest Solutions. Outside of work, Derek enjoys fishing, food hunting, watching old movies and documentaries and collecting vintage and old school video games.
